Crimestoppers & Conspiracies

👉 This is part of Truth Hunters

When things just don’t add up, there’s an army of keyboard warriors on call to take the truth into their own hands.

Evidence A: The Princess That Broke the Internet

Click bait and thinly researched journalism have warped the news cycle beyond recognition, and how better to demonstrate the state of social-fuelled hysteria than the Kate Middleton affair. Started by online speculation about the princess’s lack of appearance in public, the conspiracies went wild and the media followed suit with excessive coverage, fuelled by a dodgy mother’s day post. She was forced to issue a formal statement that revealed cancer. Cue mass shame and some hard questions about the state of hypocrisy we find ourselves in.

Evidence B: Preventing Crimes of the Heart

The dating game is a treacherous minefield and we are all vulnerable. So the internet army is on the offence. Exposing misogynists posing as ‘soft bois’ or straight up hostile behaviour is great revenge, but vigilantes are going a step further to prevent heartache. ‘Sis is this your man?’ groups are covering local areas from Sydney (50k) to Perth (18k) to Gippsland (4.5k) to Bendigo (1k). Comparing notes on suspicious app profiles and avoiding serial cheats, gals are digging up the truth to get the upper hand.
